Meet Tyler Dietrick! A OG member at Kirin Crossfit, a generous and hardworking human.

WHy Did you start Crossfit?

“I just moved to Houston, TX and didn't know anyone. I had heard about CrossFit before but didn't really know what it was. I needed a way to meet people and I was lucky enough to find a box only a couple blocks away from where I was living.”

What was your fitness like before crossfit?

“I was a consistent globo gym goer but never really pushed myself that hard or got the results I imagined I would get. I also trained for and ran various races from 5ks up to half marathons.”

If you could give your past self (before crossfit) some advise, what would it be?

“Don't take yourself too serious or compare yourself to others at the gym. Everyone is at a different place in their fitness journey and it's not fair to you or them to try to compare your progress to theirs.”

We noticed that you are quite consistent coming to the gym. What keeps you motivated to come to the gym 3 - 5x a week?

“Mainly my wife, we keep each other accountable. But also just a desire to get better at the things I suck at (e.g. assault bike). Fortunately (or unfortunately) the list of things I need to get better at is always growing.”

What are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years?

“Continuing to push myself to become a better human being. Starting a family with my lovely wife and bringing our kids to Kirin.”

What do you do for fun, outside of the gym?

“Anything to stay busy and active. Going for hikes, bike rides, working on home projects or going on vacations with the family.”

ON RAMP

Since we understand how stressful taking on something new can be, especially when you’re doing the new thing in front of a group of strangers, we require all newbies to participate in our on ramp program before jumping head first into CrossFit.

Our on ramp program consists of six classes that teach you the basics of each CrossFit movement, and yes, you must complete all six before moving on—no ifs, ands or buts. 

The truth is, you’ll probably forget the names of the moves and even some of the details, but that’s totally ok. The point is to prepare you and make sure you don’t hurt yourself. Our highly qualified coaches have your back and will be in every class cheering you on.
